FRIDAY GAMEDAY

FRIDAY GAMEDAY

Capitals(66 pts) @ Devils (80 pts)

Prudential Center

7pm

The Caps head to beautiful downtown Newark for a Friday night tilt against the Devils. The Caps find themselves 5 points back from the Canes with 3 games in hand after the Rags beat Carolina last night.

But tonight is a little more exciting then usual. Tonight marks the first game with our new Caps in the lineup.

Sergei Fedorov makes his debut on the second line with fellow countrymen Alexander Semin and 4 pointer Brooks Laich. However the bigger story is Mr.Huet. Tonight we will see number 39, no number 33, no number 38 in goal for the Caps. It's extremely exciting. It will be interesting to see how he performs for many reasons including the fact that his last few starts have been terrible. I'm sure he is ready to start fresh with the new red, white, and blue colors. The Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov line has been reunited as well.

The Devils  come into this game the best team in the east and on a tear lately. However, Carolina gave them a setback on Tuesday night. At this point the Caps need to forget about what this team has done lately or who they are and just do what they do best and find how to win.

SERIES MATCHUP

2-1 NJD

Game 1- A 3-2 loss in New Jersey after a rough first period.

Game 2- A 3-2 win in DC after Quintin Laing got his first NHL goal

Game 3- A 2-1 Overtime loss in DC only because of Brodeur's heroics.

WHO TO WATCH

Sergi Fedorov-Could this be a turning point in his career? Playing an open offensive game with many young players including some from his country could certainly do that.

Cristobal Huet- Was he a product of a great defense in front of him in Montreal or is he the real deal for DC?

Martin Broduer- Well...yea...who else do they have? Scott Stevens? wait...

FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS

FIRST ON THE BOARD-NJ is tough to play catch up with just like Minnesota. Come out firing, get some traffic in front of Marty and score first.

RESPONSIBILITY- Let's not leave Huet out to dry on his first night. Sunday and Tuesday's games were great defensively. Keep up clearing the rebounds and the traffic in front.

WHAT DO I EXPECT

Well, I don't like to say positive things because I am pretty sure I will jinx the team. But this team is energized right now. They showed it Tuesday coming out and convincingly beating a great team (and that was without their new players). They should have some jump and excitement tonight with their new lineup. And if that 's not exciting enough, they are still 5 points out of a playoff spot so yea...

Don't forget to check out Caps Blue Line, Cheap Seats, JP, Peerless and the rest for great gameday previews.
